Chimney repair professionals should advise those with flue liners for gas fires to purchase some ACS Gas Log Carbon and Soot Remover.
According to the Ask the Chimney Sweep blog, what makes this such an effective creosote removal product is that it disperses the accumulated substance without actually damaging the log.
The website recommends however that it is not such a good option for homeowners with light logs, as the manganese catalyst present in the product can lead to discolouration.
