Castle Dene Care Home in Redcar is fitting a £60,000 eco-friendly ground source heat pump in an effort to lower its fuel bills.

Yorkshire Renewable Energy Solutions will lay a number of shallow pipes, which will utilise heat from below the ground's surface to provide hot water, the centre's owner Steven Hudson telling the Evening Gazette that expensive fuel costs prompted the move.

"A ground source heat pump is something I'd been thinking about for a while. With all the uncertainty in the Middle East, who knows what will happen to fuel costs," Mr Hudson stated.

He went on to say that the £60,000 invested in the equipment should repay itself in between five and seven years.

Specialists in the heating industry will be able to explore some of the sector's latest innovations, such as new heat pumps, at the ACR show, which has now been confirmed as a biennial event.

Jan Thorpe, director of the event, told Heatingandventilating.net that the 2012 show received "extremely pleasing" feedback.
