The use of secondary glazing can help to reduce heat loss significantly, one expert has outlined.

The glass looks to be increasing in popularity at the moment, with Ian Hall, head of sales at Granada Secondary Glazing, noting that his business has just seen the two biggest years of growth in its history.

Mr Hall explained the benefits of secondary glazing, saying: "Depending on what glass you put in and depending on how much of a cavity you can create between the two windows, you can reduce the heat loss through windows by anything up to 85 per cent."

He also noted that the type of secondary glazing used by homeowners depends on the appearance of the existing windows in properties.

These remarks follow an article for the Guardian, which revealed that many gas network owners will look to increase energy costs beyond 2020.

Northern Gas Networks has told Ofgem that prices will jump by 27 per cent, while National Grid and Sotia Gas Networks are preparing to increase their costs by 11 per cent.
