The UK energy system is going through a fundamental transformation at the moment, an expert believes.

Tony Cocker, chief executive at E.ON, is hoping for the government to reduce the complexity of sustainability measures and lower uncertainties by ensuring that they are consistent.

"We are making some small steps here in the UK, but [...] we are seeing, in my view, a fundamental transformation of our energy system - how we make it and how we use it," Mr Cocker noted.

He went on to say that the transformation of the UK's energy system will cause challenges, but also bring on huge opportunities.

This month has also seen the draft publication of the Energy Bill, which Edward Davey, secretary of state for energy and climate, change, believes will offer stable and predictable incentives for firms to invest in low-carbon generation.

It will also ensure that the government and Ofgem are united at a strategic level in order to improve certainty over regulation.
