A gas fitter has been sentenced after he was found to have installed and illegally serviced equipment which could have put the tenants of a Wrexham property in danger.

Neil Lloyd now faces a 12-month community order, which includes 150 hours of unpaid work, and has to pay costs of £500 in a prosecution brought by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Mr Lloyd was not an accredited Gas Safe engineer when he completed the work, and the HSE was alerted to the issue after a qualified expert noticed that the flue was left unsealed.

Speaking after the hearing, HSE inspector Debbie John said: "Mr Lloyd was fully aware of the legal requirement for gas fitting work to only be carried out by a registered Gas Safe engineer, yet he inspected the gas installation and declared it was satisfactory.

Last month, the HSE fined Ascot resident Phillip Payne after he was found to have completed gas work at The Swinley pub when he was not registered with Gas Safe.
