How to connect flue pipes
Here's how to connect your vitreous enamel stove flue. You will need at least one length, in order to connect from the appliance (wood or multi-fuel burning stove, gas or oil appliance) to the chimney liner.
Ensure that the spigot end (I.e. the end with the smaller width or taper ) is pointing downwards. This is important because exhaust gases cause condensates in the pipe, which run downward, so if you install with the spigot end facing upwards it will create a ridge upon which moisture can sit and in time this will reduce the lifespan of the pipes.
Every joint from the outlet on the appliance all the way to the liner, should be sealed with fire cement and fire rope. Leaks can be dangerous, allowing exhaust gases to escape into the home, so be sure to do a smoke test.
The size of your flue pipe can be increased in diameter by a maximum of one inch over the outlet on you appliance, using a suitable adaptor.
For example, if you have a 5 inch outlet, you can use 6 inch pipe (with adaptor).
You cannot reduce the diameter of the flue as this will affect downdraught.
