A Victorian brewery chimney and its flue accessories in Wrexham has been sold on eBay for £1,420.

The structure was under the ownership of former MP John Marek, who acquired the Grade II-listed landmark over 20 years ago in order to prevent it from being demolished, reports the BBC.

Standing at 120ft, the chimney was placed on the auction website after Mr Marek could not find a buyer through local appeals.

However, the person who purchased the structure is unknown, while plans for it have also been undisclosed.

Speaking to the news provider, Mr Marek noted that the chimney is in good condition, while insurance on the landmark cost him around £800 per year.

The Shields Gazette has reported that Cleadon Chimney has been described as at risk by the Heritage At Risk register.

Marsden Lime Kilns and Christ Church have also been given the status amid worries about their overall condition.
