A house fire in Oxfordshire has prompted the local fire service to advise homeowners about how to properly handle flue accessories.

The house fire occurred in Tadmarton Road, Bloxham, with one man being treated for smoke inhalation and suffering minor burns from the blaze that is believed to have started in an open fireplace, according to Four Shires.

Three children managed to evacuate the premises safely, while the Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service has warned residents to ensure that their chimneys are cleaned a minimum of twice a year.

Earlier this month, several incidents of chimney fires in Devon and Somerset triggered the nearby fire station to provide guidance for homeowners, according to the County Gazette.

A fire office spokesman told the publication: "We have been called to a number of fires in the South Devon area recently which could have been prevented by the owners making sure their chimneys were cleaned before the start of the colder weather."
