Homeowners who want to do their bit for the environment may wish to invest in chimney inserts next time they go shopping for flue accessories.Wayne Hemrick, a freelance writer who covers wood fireplaces, said in an entry on Firewood that while wood-burning fires look nice, they are highly inefficient and waste a lot of heat.
However, when buying flue accessories, couples could look into purchasing chimney inserts, as they can make a significant difference to a fire's performance.
"Wood-burning fireplaces that are equipped with inserts and/or wood burning stoves burn more efficiently and actually give off a lot of heat. In addition, such retro-fitted wood fireplaces can use more ecologically-friendly forms of fuel," Mr Hemmrick added.
He went on to say that a catalytic convertor can be fitted, meaning families create less air pollution when they burn more wood during the colder winter months.
The Jayleen9723893 blog recently made a similar point, saying that installing an insert will help prevent the build up of creosote.
