Property owners in Aberdeen might be able to benefit from lower heating costs after the council announced a free home insulation scheme for all of its residents.

Aberdeen City Council claims that householders could save up to £250 per year on their energy bill, easing the pressure on those who rely on a woodburner to keep their abode warm.

Applications need to be sent before the end of March, although if the fund runs out before then the scheme will be stopped.

Anyone who lives in the Aberdeen City Council area, whose property has less than 200mm of existing insulation can apply.

Insulation can play an important part in keeping heat within a property, which is imperative with the current cost of fuel.

Gas and electricity bills have recently rocketed, although a number of the major providers announced cuts for later this year.

Tenants are reminded that they need consent from their landlord in order to have the work carried out.
