A warning has been sent out to homeowners in Massachusetts after it was reported that chimney scammers falsely offering services to flue accessories are operating in the state.
These criminals have been contacting property owners in the state's town of Carver and informing them that there is a state mandate stating that chimneys need to be cleaned, according to 959Watd.com.
Michael Mendoza, Carver's building commissioner, condemned the fraudsters and told the website that it is a "good idea" for homeowners to clean their chimneys annually.
This news comes after Wsch6.com reported that the American chimney repair firm Lysco Contracting has had a lawsuit filed against them by Maine attorney general Janet Mills.
Ms Mills claimed that the firm was not legally allowed to offer door-to-door sales in Maine and it did not correctly inform customers of their contractual rights.
The legal action was taken after several dissatisfied local residents complained about the company's services.
