A home in Bolton may possibly be the most energy efficient household in Europe, according to its owners.

The 100-year-old property in Georgina Street has undergone significant modifications, meaning that its energy bills have been slashed to only £6 per week, reports Bolton News.

It also has no radiators, with an air pump and underfloor heating instead keeping its inhabitants warm.

Speaking to the news provider, Pete Smith, chief executive of St Vincent’s Housing Association, which has pioneered the project, said: "I have been asked if this is the most energy efficient house in Bolton. It is more likely the most efficient in Europe."

However, Mr Smith went on to say that the work is not centred on being the best, as it is instead focused on showing people that sustainability can be affordable.

News of Bolton's highly energy efficient home comes after the Lincolnshire Echo reported that Sleaford residents have given an excellent rating to bungalows in Eslaforde Gardens, which offer solar water heating systems and air-source heating pumps.
