Businesses have been warned about possible metal thefts in Godmanchester and Swavesy, after lead was stolen from the flue accessories of a church in the region.
Thieves climbed up the boiler flue of St Mary's Church during a rainstorm last week, where water began pouring into the chancel. Costs of the damage are yet to be determined, reports Hunts Post 24.
A police spokesman told the website that a significant increase in lead thefts had not been noticed. However, he did warn against metal thieves.
He explained: "Metal theft is an ongoing problem due to the high price of scrap metal. We would urge businesses and churches to consider options such as SmartWater to deter thieves."
This warning comes after TrustMark warned property owners that they should conduct checks on tradesmen before employing them to work on their properties.
The firm stated that many people rush into employing people to fix their home appliances.
