A chimney fire in California has caused three people to be evacuated from their home, emphasising the importance of carefully maintained flue accessories.

The fire occurred at a property down Grand Boulevard in the state's San Mateo area, according to Mercury News.

Fire men have told the website that the issue was caused after a homeowner lit a fire in the house's fireplace, which caused flames to spread towards the attic.

The website also revealed that no one was injured during the fire.

This news comes after a fire engulfed a house in Wisconsin, USA earlier this week, according to the Channel 3000 website.

A pizza delivery worker notified residents of flames being released from the home's chimney, which was located on the 1600 block of Droster Road in the state's Madison region.

Repair costs are predicted to have reached around $40,000 (£25,000) after the fire affected the house's roof as well as other areas.
