A number of heavy industries could be attracted to Yorkshire if proposals for a large carbon capture and storage (CCS) pipeline in Selby are successful.
It is expected that the new flue accessories technology will help to cut the carbon emissions of plants in the area such as Drax power station, as well as others in Eggborough and Ferrybridge, reports the Selby Times.
CO2Sense's head of carbon capture and storage Dr Stephen Brown told the newspaper: "It's terrific news for Yorkshire and the UK that this scheme is now moving forward after so much discussion."
Mr Brown also stated that he has been a long-term believer that CCS will provide a solution for significant carbon emitters in the area.
Elsewhere in the heating industry, Statoil and Gassnova are requesting suppliers to participate in a technology qualification scheme that aims to investigate full-scale carbon capture technology at a Mongstad plant.
