A chimney fire occurred at a pub in Hertfordshire this week, with fire fighters blaming the building's flue accessories for the incident.

The blaze alerted local fire authorities to the Crooked Chimney pub in Marford Road, Welwyn Hatfield on Wednesday at around 13:15 BST, according to WhTimes.co.uk.

Mark Pidduck, local fire crew commander, told the website: "We had to extinguish the fire using chimney rods, but because it's crooked we had to call in the aerial ladder platform and look down from above."

This news comes after the BBC reported that a thatched cottage in Essex was saved from severe damage by fire officials last week.

The home in Church Road, which is just north of Colchester, was brought to the attention of 5 fire engines from the Essex and Suffolk areas.

Flames spread from the house's chimney into its roof, where fire fighters were forced to remove damaged thatch with their own hands.
