Solar panels have now been fitted among the flue accessories of two buildings at Colchester's St Helena Hospice.

It is expected that the installation will save around £3,500 a year on the premises' energy bills, while generating enough spare power to secure over £10,000 a year in government subsidy and sales to the National Grid, reports the Essex County Standard.

Hospice director Rosy Stamp told the newspaper: "St Helena is thrilled to have completed this fantastic project and to be helping to move the UK towards a more sustainable future, as well as providing more care for local patients."

Ms Stamp also thanked people for their support, which has made the installations possible.

A report by the Haverhill Echo recently noted that grants of more than £9,000 have been allocated for improvements to heating appliances at Sawston Cinema.

South Cambridgeshire District Council has given the money to Sawston Village College for the technology.
