Local communities' work to combat the causes and effects of climate change brought on by appliances such as flue accessoires has been honoured by Bath and North East Somerset Council.

The authority recognised community groups from Timsbury, Widcombe, University of Bath, Keynsham, Twerton, Radstock and Newbridge in an awards ceremony for the Local Energy Champions contest, reports the Bath Chronicle.

Councillor Paul Crossley, leader of council, said: "Tackling the causes and effects of climate change must be a community effort in order for us to achieve the aim of cutting our community emissions by 45 per cent by 2026."

The council is aiming to decrease its carbon footprint via a selection of innovative projects, so the community needs to take its lead, Mr Crossley urged.

Bath and North East Somerset Council's efforts come after the National Insulation Association claimed that now is the best time for people to insulate their homes and decrease their environmental impact.
