A 374 foot chimney stack and any related flue accessories has been demolished by building materials provider CEMEX UK at its cement plant in Rochester, Kent.
The demolition occurred on the September 19th, marking the end of the site's cement production, as the company begins to focus on more "environmentally friendly" means of cement making.
President of CEMEX UK Gonzalo Galindo said: "Our Tilbury plant now provides a more environmentally friendly option for cement making."
Mr Galindo added that a new mixed-use lakeside development "will be of great benefit to the local community".
CEMEX UK places a heavy focus on energy efficiency and last month the company announced the introduction of an Environmental Footprint Tracker, which measures energy usage through authorised management systems to "set reduction targets".
The company's sustainability director, Andy Spencer, recently noted that cutting carbon is a priority for CEMEX UK, having increased alternative energy use by 30 per cent throughout 2008/09.
