Cornish charity Community Energy Plus (CEP) has revealed a proposal to enable local residents to obtain Feed-in Tariff funding for flue accessories.

Named Solar Communities 2011, the scheme will give access to a £20 million fund, enabling homeowners to invest in roof-mounted solar photovoltaic installations and improve their energy efficiency.

Neil Farrington, sustainable energy projects manager at Community Energy Plus, said: "At a time when grant funding for such initiatives has greatly reduced and energy bills are continually rising, this offer provides a fantastic but limited-time opportunity for community buildings to secure multiple benefits."

The scheme was developed as a reaction to the challenge that many non-commercial organisations face when attempting to launch their own renewable energy projects, Mr Farrington explained.

Eco Environments recently described solar panel installation as "the thing to do", as more people are now becoming aware of the benefits associated with the technology.
