A £4 million project could give financial assistance to Cornwall social housing tenants who are suffering from fuel poverty.

The not-for-profit housing association Coastline Housing will complete energy efficiency work on 480 homes in the area as part of the government's Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP), reports 24Dash.

EDF Energy will provide the funding for the upgrades.

CESP project manager at Coastline Housing, Ralph Retallack, told the news provider: "As a housing association we are taking a concerted approach to energy saving and we’re really excited about the impact of the CESP project."

Mr Retallack stated that the initiative will transform entire communities and possibly alter lives.

Last month, residents in Bristol learned that they will receive help to decrease their gas and electricity bills via a European Commission (EC)-funded scheme.

The EC will supply cash for the 3e Houses project, which will see Bristol City Council work alongside Toshiba Research Europe, Knowle West Media Centre and IP Performance to fit smart energy monitors in homes.
