A faulty fireplace and improper chimney installation have been blamed for a fire in Wisconsin, USA, which underlines the importance of properly installed chimney cowls.

The fire was noticed at a home on the 1600 block of Droster Road in the state's area of Madison after a pizza delivery worker notified residents of flames being released from the home's chimney, according to Channel 3000.

Damage was inflicted on the roof as well as other areas, resulting in repair costs that are estimated to reach around $40,000 (£25,000).

This news comes after a chimney blaze in California caused severe damage to a house, according to Mercury News.

The fire occurred on Stagecoach Canyon Road in the Napa County area of California, where damage is predicted to cost around $15,000 (£9,450) to repair.

Local fire crews have now begun investigating the specific cause of the incident, which led to hazardous smoke spreading throughout the household.
