A fire in Minnesota, US has caused severe damage to a home's chimney cowl and later spread outside of the property.

The blaze in the Maple Grove region was caused by the home's fireplace, causing smoke to circulate throughout the property and severely damage its chimney, according to Wcco.com.

Wcco.com also reports that the fire opened up a hole in an area of the house, though nearby homes were not affected by the flames, as winds did not play a factor in the incident.

Meanwhile, house fires have also occurred in Britain over the past few weeks, including one incident in the Hartlebury area of Kidderminster.

The Kidderminster Shuttle reported the blaze, which happened at a property down Walton Road and demanded the presence of two fire crews.

In addition, the incident led to Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service providing guidance for homeowners.

A representative told the paper that chimney flues must be inspected and cleaned regularly.
