The government's decision to fund carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects with general spending may place some of the industry's developers of flue accessories at a disadvantage.

This is according to Dr Jeff Chapman, who believes that the coalition is treating CCS in a different way to alternative low-carbon technologies, reports Business Green.

Mr Chapman told the website: "It's not a good situation that the industry has to go, cap in hand, to the government for support when other renewable technologies get automatic support."

The government will fund four CSS demonstration projects with central Treasury funds, which will do little to help advance the technology, Mr Chapman added.

However, experts at the Carbon Capture Simulation Initiative (CCSI) are still hoping to develop CCS further.

In order to do this, the CCSI is adopting a new software infrastructure, which it hopes will create cost-effective methods of implementing CCS systems throughout the world.
