The Grant Aided Heating Installers Network (GAIN) has called on the Department of Energy and Climate Change to boost its promotion of the Warm Front initiative.

The group believes that an absence of effective advertisement has meant that many people are unaware that they are eligible for the scheme, which helps to boost heating and insulation in homes, reports Heatingandventilating.net.

As well as this, GAIN has urged the government to evaluate the programme's criteria to guarantee that funding is given to households that require it the most.

It has also called on registered social and private landlords to raise awareness of the grants via library notices and promotion in citizens advice centres.

The topic of fuel poverty was recently highlighted by David Weatherall from the Energy Saving Trust, who noted that the issue has turned into one of the UK's biggest social problems.

However, Mr Weatherall underlined that there are many initiatives designed to help homeowners with such issues, including the Warm Front Scheme.
