Helius CoRDe has teamed with Helius Energy and Rabo Project Equity BV to develop a new power plant in Scotland that will use Scotch Whisky distillery by-products.
Construction has begun on a biomass/feeds combined heat and power plant in the country's Speyside area, which hopes to emit minimal emissions from its flue accessories, according to ScotchMaltWhisky.co.uk.
Gavin Hewitt, chief executive of the Scotch Whisky Association, told the website: "The innovative project is an excellent example of what can be achieved through collaboration between scotch whisky distillers."
The project will act as a welcome boost to the region, particularly due to the current economic climate, Mr Hewitt emphasised.
Around 20 full-time staff will be employed when the site commences its operations in 2013.
Yorkshire's hopes of developing a wide carbon capture and storage (CCS) network were dashed earlier this month, with the Yorkshire Post revealing that the government did not want the county's CCS plans to be an integral part of its new research scheme.
