Homeowners need to be cautious when installing wood burning stoves, it has been advised.
Cheap Chinese imports have been circulating throughout the market which, combined with improper installation, could put lives at risk during the winter months, a Broseley representative has told H&V News.
Speaking to the website, Tristan Johnston, product development engineer at Broseley, said: "When times are hard it is understandable that people will try to save money and investing in a wood burner can be a great way to reduce heating costs."
However, the spokesperson warned that it is not worth endangering people's safety by buying stoves that do not meet safety standards.
This month, the National Home Improvement Council suggested that schools should introduce an energy efficiency course in order to educate young people about the benefits of appliances such as wood stoves.
The group believes that only a couple of hours a week are required to give pupils sufficient knowledge on the subject.
