A grant for insulation has been confirmed by Ryedale District Council and the Yorkshire Energy Partnership, which aims to fund home insulation for local residents.

As a result of the move, free external wall insulation will be available for Ryedale residents who are off-mains gas and have the necessary qualifying benefits, according to the Gazette & Herald.

Speaking to the news provider, councillor Linda Cowling, chairman of Ryedale District Council's commissioning board, said: "Even if you don’t qualify for free external wall insulation, there are still huge discounts available through this scheme, offering at least 50 per cent off, so we’re urging people to take full advantage while funds last."

These remarks come after a study by E.ON found that UK renters are missing out on annual savings of over £900 million as a result of not installing basic energy saving measures such as insulation.

The research found that only two in ten renters are making a conscious effort to improve the energy efficiency of their home.
