A landmark chimney in Wrexham is to be maintained by Marston's, following confusion after it was sold on eBay.

Former Wrexham MP John Marek auctioned the chimney last year, but could not find proof that he purchased the structure from Marston's. However, the company will now take responsibility for the upkeep of it, reports the BBC.

As well as this, Marston's has agreed to donate £1,400 to the Help For Heroes charity.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Marek said: "I couldn't find the deeds of the chimney but I could find front pages of the local newspaper with photographs of me receiving the deeds at the time."

His comments come after the South Wales Evening Post reported that the Cefn Coed Colliery Museum chimney in Wales' Dulais Valley is to benefit from a revamp.

The project will cost £75,000 and it is hoped that the improvements will be finished before May, when the site is set to reopen.
