More British residents are opting to take renewable energy training courses, which may help to improve their knowledge of flue accessories.

Courses in areas such as solar photovoltaics (PV) or ground source heat pumps seem to be suitable for a large number of people, as many of them find the studying to be fairly straightforward, a representative from MET UK has underlined.

Keith Tolwin, sales director at the organisation, said: "One of the main dangers is people going out there without the necessary electrical skills and installing solar PV, injecting electricity back into the grid and there is a danger of killing somebody down the road if they haven't got the skills."

Mr Tolwin also noted that there is a 95 to 97 per cent pass rate for renewable energy courses.

Last month, Greg Barker, the minister of state for energy and climate change, estimated that around £2-£3 billion of energy is wasted each year due to poorly insulated homes.
