Property owners can conduct their own home improvements, even if they only have basic knowledge, one group has highlighted.

There has been an increase in the number of people carrying out DIY work, with people now looking to save money by any means they can, a spokesperson from Homebuilding & Renovating has remarked.

Jason Orme, editor at Homebuilding & Renovating, commented on worries regarding how home insurance could be affected by delayed renovation work.

Mr Orme explained: "Obviously as long as the work is done well and competently then it really shouldn't affect the home's insurance or even final values."

He recommended that those who are looking for professionals should seek people who are approved or have high recommendations.

A study by AA's Home Emergency Response Service found that 39 per cent of Britons have either delayed maintenance or conducted their own repair work in the last year,

The research also discovered that 14 per cent of people have completed work on their property that they would have paid a tradesman to carry out in the past.
