Active engagement in the UK energy market can help to make a difference to energy bills, one organisation has stressed.

Ofgem is hoping for consumers to take advantage of a simpler and more competitive energy sector, and has proposed a number of substantial changes to the retail market, which it believes can be helped by people gaining a better understanding of the sector.

An Ofgem spokeswoman explained: "More effective competition in the retail market will help keep prices as low as possible for consumers and is one way Ofgem can help all consumers - especially the vulnerable."

She conceded that it can be difficult for people to engage with the energy market, but advice is available through the group.

Occupants of energy efficient homes in Britain have expressed satisfaction regarding their new abodes, with the National House Building Council recently finding that the residents are happy with the living space and lower energy bills available through them.
