Homeowners would do well to call in a seasoned professional to remove their chimney flue, as it is not a task for the faint hearted.
ScotBoy, writing on his Waters Edge Renovation blog, had to rebuild most of his structure as the brickwork was in a poor condition and the flue had collapsed.
To begin with, the chimney was taken down and supported with lintels before the the stone and bricks upstairs were removed and the back wall dropped back a bit.
After this task was complete, the removal of the fireplace could proceed and required both the writer and his friend John.
Those who live in older properties may well find themselves in a similar situation as ScotBoy.
Katherine Frankel, writing for the HarrisonPatch, said that the
appeal of living in an old house is very strong for some people
however, there is a chance that the chimney and other parts of the
home will need extensive repair works as a result of wear and tear
over time.
