Three cooling towers have been demolished at Richborough Power Station, along with a large chimney on the site.
The structures were a key part of the east Kent skyline before they were taken down in an explosion which was completed in under one minute. The plant's owners now want to build a green energy site on the premises, reports the BBC.
Speaking to the news provider, business development manager for the National Grid Kevin Lee, said: "It all seemed to go very smoothly and very professionally. I was impressed by the degree of control over the demolition.
Overall, the demolition took 18 months to plan, and explosives were situated around the towers' bases before detonating in a sequence.
News of this demolition comes after Reuters reported research by EC Harris, which found that London's Battersea Power Station site would be worth an additional £470 million to a developer who could demolish the protected building.
