Three workers were killed while 13 others were left in a critically injured state in the Satna District of Madhya Pradesh, India when the chimney of a cement plant collapsed, including the plant’s chimney cowl.

According to Samaylive, Himmat Singh, in-charge of Rampur Bhagelan region, confirmed that the chimney was part of a construction in-progress when the chimney collapsed. Workers were caught under debris before being rescued by the emergency services.

The reason for the chimney's collapse is yet to be discovered but Samaylive reported that strict action will be taken against the cement plant's owner if he is found to be responsible.

This is the second occasion that a chimney has caused death in India, as Indian news source IBN live reported on Monday that a collapsed chimney in the Indian village of Janti Kalan took the life of one man and injured another.
