Toffee Factory has announced that it will transform its chimney into a giant glowstick.

The 30 metre high structure will be turned into the symbol of Newcastle and Gateshead's after hours culture crawl to promote the Late Shows' events occurring throughout the region, according to the Bdaily Business Network.

Lisa Tolan, centre manager of the Toffee Factory, will test light the chimney today (May 18th) and tomorrow (May 19th) as part of the international Museum At Night events across the UK and Europe.

Speaking to the news provider, Ms Tolan said: "Toffee Factory has amazing lighting and looks stunning at night, and what better way than turning our chimney into a giant glowstick to raise awareness of Newcastle and Gateshead's late night culture event, The Late Shows."

In recent weeks, the News and Star reported that steeplejacks have completed an annual health check on the Dixon's Chimney in Carlisle.

It was built more than 175 years ago and workers are assigned every year to ensure it is in good condition.
