Henry Boot Construction's renewable energy arm Tropo has been awarded a contract to provide heating and hot water via ground source heat pumps to North Yorkshire properties.

The equipment will be fitted to 17 homes in Sherburn, West Heslerton and Ganton for Yorkshire Housing, with the project hoping to decrease the houses' environmental impact and lower the energy bills of locals.

Richard Bould from Yorkshire Housing said: "The ground source heat pumps, together with improved insulation, mean we can provide even more of our homes with the highest energy efficiency standards possible."

Mr Bould added that the work is supporting tenants by providing them with warm homes, which are equipped with sustainable and affordable heating methods.

Heating problems in the UK were recently highlighted by the Energy Saving Trust, which claimed that fuel poverty is currently one of the biggest social issues in Britain.

David Weatherall from the group also noted that a sophisticated area-based analysis is required to ensure that energy schemes are advantageous.
