A decision has been made to allow flue accessories installed at West Herts College to stay, despite having been built without planning permission.
Although an initial application for retrospective planning permission was turned down by Watford Borough Council, a report by the council's planning inspector has since ruled that the flues be allowed to stay.
According to the Watford Observer, the report said: "Within the context of the college campus, the flues are not a dominant feature.
"Emissions from the flues are similar to that of a domestic boiler and condensation would only be visible in the colder months."
Earlier this month, August West Chimney Sweeps owner Dave Burns warned property owners to ensure that their chimneys and flues are checked by a professional.
He suggested that a large proportion of repairs he carries out are to fix damage caused by rogue traders.
