Stove pipe shams 'can make pipes look pretty'

Homeowners with woodburners will know that wood stove pipes are not particularly pleasing on the eye but there are steps people can take to make them appear prettier.

According to John Wells, writing on the Decorlicious blog, these items can be bought in a series of different styles and can disguise the plain and boring wood stove pipe.

"To dress up that drab, ugly stove pipe, consider buying a stove pipe sham. These are tubular wrappers made of heavy gauge steel that encase the pipe in a decorative design, such as botanical leaf and vine motifs," he stated.

The writer also recommended a hearth pad to act as a protective layer between the stove and the flooring, with those made of mineral fibres and wrapped in heavy gauge metal the best option.

According to a post on the Financebis blog, those with wood stoves need to have their chimney inspected annually.
