Proper chimney cleaning 'is worth it'

Chimney repair professionals should make homeowners aware that having flue liners for woodburners and other chimneys cleaned by a professional is worth it.

The Bestcleaningservices blog stated that while the cost of doing so may put people off, the alternative is to let dangerous creosote build up and pose a fire hazard.

Having flue liners for woodburners cleaned is essential to reduce this risk but those who are adamant that they do not want to pay could always undertake the work themselves.

"First of all check out the sides of [the] chimney and pipe to see if creosote is there. Then scrub all that with [a] brush [but] be careful and don't mess up the cinder," the source added.

As well as reducing the risk of a fire, removing creosote from flue liners stops them corroding, meaning homeowners will not have to shell out for a new one on a regular basis, the Ask the Chimney Sweep blog recently stated.
