Angus Council is the fifth best performing council in Scotland when it comes to decreasing the carbon footprint of appliances such as flue accessories.

A meeting of the authority's corporate services committee heard that it has enforced several measures that aim to boost energy efficiency and decrease carbon emissions.

Speaking about the measures, convener Mark Salmond said: "These positive results reflect the ongoing work undertaken in carbon management within the council including actively reducing carbon dioxide emissions for non-housing properties, fleet vehicles, street lighting and business travel."

The council is also taking part in the UK government's Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme, which hopes to boost efficiency when it comes to using electricity and gas appliances.

One initiative that has also been designed to improve energy efficiency is the Green Deal, but Daniel Green from HomeSun has stated that the government must work harder to persuade people to benefit from it.

Mr Green advised that the government should ensure that it is not too complicated for residents to understand.
