St Mary's Church in Mildenhall has launched an appeal in an effort to generate £10,000 for a new boiler system to be fitted alongside its flue accessories.

Members of its parochial church council (PCC) have started the initiative after the site's current boiler was affected by faults.  In addition, the church is hoping to raise an additional £20,000 to fund other repairs, reports the Newmarket Journal.

PCC representative Ann Leeks told the news provider: "Unfortunately, our existing heating system is no longer able to carry out the job it is designed to do. This has happened at the wrong time of year and we desperately need a new one."

Ms Leeks added that, no matter how much people choose to donate, every "penny will count".

Elsewhere, a Haslingden church has also launched an appeal for a new boiler, with the Lancashire Telegraph reporting that attendances at Manchester Road Methodist Church have fallen due to the cold conditions in its main building.
