Homeowners who are worried about their flue liners for woodburners this winter should not hesitate to seek professional help.
Fireplaces and other heating appliances can be severe fire hazards if they are not adequately cleaned by sweeps as creosote is a key danger to homes, according to Koamtv.com.
Matt Gratton, a professional chimney sweep from Missouri, told the website: "Once you heat it up in the winter and then it cools down those flue tiles can crack."
This news comes after Corning-observer.com also advised residents of the problems associated with creosote.
The website told readers that they can alleviate their fire safety concerns by employing measures such as guaranteeing that creosote does not accumulate within their chimneys.
Kevin Colburn, spokesman for the American organisation CalFire, revealed to the website that property owners should also be aware of other substances, including soot, tar and ash. In addition, he suggested that homeowners should check for cracks in their sidewalls.
