British Gas is expected to confirm a price increase in the upcoming weeks, which will be of interest to people who are looking to cut the costs of their flue liners for gas fires.

When speaking to the Parliamentary Energy Select Committee, British Gas' chief operating officer Ian Peters revealed that the company can no longer handle energy prices and will need to pass the fees onto customers.

Mr Peters said: "Unless there is a fundamental shift in the way the commodity markets are going to play out in the next few weeks then, on the balance of probability, we will reluctantly put the price up."

However, he would not confirm when or how the company's prices will be affected.

Elsewhere in the energy industry, the Micropower Council has vowed to stop cowboy traders from working on photovoltaic (PV) technology.

It found that some PV installers were breaking regulations.
