Locals in North Oxford have been urged to help a new investment scheme that aims to cover Cherwell School's roofs with solar panels.

The Oxford North Community Renewables (Oncore) group is hoping to raise £145,000 in order to purchase 250 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. These will then be able to generate sufficient power for the entire school, reports the Oxford Mail.

Oncore chairman Sam Clarke said: "We have had a lot of interest. The idea is not only to reduce carbon emissions but to generate more cash to carry out further schemes."

Mr Clarke also commented that the changes will allow the school to pay less for their clean power than they are for "dirty" electricity.

It comes after research from Which? found that many companies are providing poor advice to people who wish to add solar PV panels to their flue accessories.

The group found that three-quarters of businesses wrongly estimated how much energy solar PV panels would create.
