The Micropower Council, which is the microgeneration industry's trade body has announced its intention to stop cowboy traders in the flue accessories industry.

It has vowed to act after a study from Which? found that some polar photovoltaic (PV) installer companies were breaking the main standards of self-regulation, the MCS installer standard and the REAL Assurance Scheme.

Dave Sowden, chief executive of the Micropower Council, said: "We have seen unprecedented growth in sales of solar PV in the past year, and a rapidly growing industry inevitably attracts a small number of cowboys."

There is no reason for customers to be misled by exaggerating the incentives available to them, Mr Sowden added.

He also stated that the Micropower Council is acutely conscious of the shortcomings in the government's own assessment methodology.

Mr Sowden continued by saying that the Microgeneration Strategy was launched at the Microgeneration UK 2011 conference to address these concerns.
