The UK's utilities sector is being affected by a lack of innovation, a British Gas representative has highlighted.
Alex Jones, the company's head of connected homes, believes that new ideas need to be brought to the sector in order to help it meet its objectives for decreasing carbon emissions, reports Marketing Week.
It comes after British Gas offered a £50 incentive to anyone who refers a vulnerable resident to its free loft and cavity wall insulation offers, which aim to boost living standards and help the UK meet its energy efficiency targets.
At the Mobile World Congress, the news provider reported Mr Jones as saying: "Energy is not typically a sector you associate with innovation, it’s a pretty settled industry, a bit like healthcare, but there is a massive opportunity in this space."
He also remarked that Britain's energy industry must be "turned on its head" in order for carbon emissions to be cut by 34 per cent.
