With snow poised to hit Britain, 25 per cent of UK residents have confessed to being worried about damage that could be caused to their home by the weather, a new study has found.
A number of British areas are predicted to experience sub-zero temperatures in the next few weeks, with nearly two in five people (37 per cent) admitting that they are concerned about paying their lighting and heating costs, according to research by Santander.
Steve Burton, head of marketing at Santander, said: "People are concerned about a wide variety of risks from the effects of adverse weather or their ability to pay the bills during the winter."
Mr Burton advised people to ensure that they know how to turn off their water and electricity supplies in the event of an emergency.
Earlier this week, forecasters warned that a high pressure weather system will move from Russia and Scandinavia to the UK over the next few days, causing temperatures to drop to as low as -10C.
