Carbon capture and fossil fuel technologies should be combined in order for the pollution from flue accessories to be minimised, a government official has warned.
Charles Hendry, the minister for energy, has said that carbon capture storage will help to improve the efficiency of the UK's energy supplies and stated that the nation's energy industry could become worth millions of dollars.
"It's not about low carbon versus affordability versus energy security. These must all work together. This security is a major component to the economic regeneration that we are committed to starting," Mr Henry claimed.
The government official also suggested that more than half of Britain's electricity generation will still be fuelled by coal and gas. In addition, the task of "de-carbonising" the UK was outlined.
This would involve significant reductions from the carbon emissions that are released from fossil fuel power stations and could lead to chimney sweeps using new technology in order to increase efficiency
