A chimney extension has been approved in Sharpness, Glocuester, after residents complained about the stench of the structure's flue accessories.

The chimney's owner New Earth Solutions has now been granted permission to increase the structure's height by ten metres, which it hopes will cause the heating appliance's emissions to travel away from the town, reports the Gazette Series.

Brian Williams, owner of Sharpness Marina, told the news provider: "Anything that has the chance of bringing a resolution is a good thing, but I don't think it will make a difference. The smell seems worse this year, a lot of people have said that to me.

"The only real solution would be to close the facility."

Residents in Wales will be hoping that they will not suffer a similar stench when the Abernedd Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant is built.

The site will be located at the Balgan Bay Energy Park.
